Whodini member John Fletcher has passed on Wednesday away at the age of 56.

The news was confirmed by Fletcher’s friends in the industry and said he was a part of the most influential groups in hip-hop history. Fletcher was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 4,1964 and formed the group Whodini with fellow members Jalil Hutchins. Grandmaster Dee joined the group in 1986 and since their start in 1982, they launched classics such as “The Haunted House of Rock,” “Friends,” and “Freaks Come Out at Night,”

Questlove wrote the following statement about his friend in an Instagram post saying, “One love to Ecstasy of the legendary #Whodini. This man was legendary and a pivotal member of one of the most legendary groups in hip hop. This is sad man.”

DJ DNice also wrote, “This one hurts. Rest peacefully, Ecstasy. Whodini will forever be one of my favorite rap groups. One love, bro. You will be missed. 🕊🕊🕊” The group was honored in 2018 for their contributions in hip-hop.

Currently a cause of death is unknown and a statement from the family has yet to be released.
