Sheesh! “Glizzy God” Joey Chestnut just won his 16th Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog eating contest, winning a grand prize of $10,000!

Despite there being a two-hour delay because of bad weather, Chestnut sought victory as he at 62 hot dogs to keep his title as the “glizzy gladiator” for the 16th time. Now, the contest was initially supposed to kick off at 12 noon on Tuesday (July 4), but due to some severe weather, including lightning, at Brooklyn, New York’s Coney Island, the contest was temporarily put on hold.
Then, news broke that the competition was going to be completely canceled. But soon after, the weather lightened up and Chestnut, among other competitors, were back into the motion of shoving hot dogs down their throats to take home a big cash prize. At around 2 p.m. ET, the contestants were reintroduced and took their positions to begin the race.
At around 2:18 p.m., the whistle went off, signaling that the contest had begun and so the hot dog eating began. About ten minutes after that, Chestnut proudly stood up as the winner. Haven eaten 62 hot dogs, he was received a huge applause. He had eaten 14 more hot dogs than the second place winner.
Elsewhere, it is reported that 62 Nathan’s Famous hot dogs is “far below” Chestnut’s initial projection for the day, which he estimated to be around 71 to 72 hot dogs in buns. It is being explained that because of the two-hour weather delay, Chestnut and his competitors’ abilities to eat in top form had been affected.
Despite the small letdown, Chestnut was still a winner and it became his eight straight contest win, and his 16th win overall. #Socialites, how many glizzies do you think you can take down?
