Joe Exotic Series Starring Nicolas Cage Picked Up By Amazon
In May, we reported that Nicolas Cage was set to play Joe Exotic in a new scripted TV series. It’s now been learned that Amazon has picked up the still-untitled series, which is to be co-produced by Amazon Studies, Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios.
The forthcoming eight-episode show, which is unlike Netflix’s ‘Tiger King,’ will be based on the ‘Texas Monthly‘ article: “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” and will further focus on how Joe Shreibvogel (played by Cage), became the eccentric zookeeper we all came to know and love, Joe Exotic.

While further production and release details have yet to surface, Brian Grazer, Paul Young and Dan Lagana will act as writers, showrunners and executive producers of the series, alongside Cage, Samie Kim Falvey, Scott Brown, and Megan Credyt. Meanwhile, Exotic is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for a murder-for-hire plot against rival and big-cats rights activist Carole Baskin. He’s most recently sent a letter to Donald Trump for pardon.
