Joe Biden Treasury Department Speeding Up Revival Of $20 Harriet Tubman Bill Shelved By Trump
In May 2019, we reported that the $20 Harriet Tubman bill redesign would be shelved until Donald Trump left office, and things are now back in motion as Joe Biden moves in! Biden’s treasury department is now looking to push forward with the redesign first-announced during the Barack Obama administration.
On Monday (Jan. 25), press secretary Jen Psaki confirms the administration is “exploring ways to speed up [the] effort.” She says it’s important that the country’s currency bills “reflect the history and diversity of our country, and Harriet Tubman’s image gracing the new $20 note would certainly reflect that.”

Furthermore, although it may seem like an easy swap from Andrew Jackson‘s face for Tubman’s, other delays include utilizing and perfecting anti-counterfeiting technology and other security measure to avoid illegal duplication. Therefore, things look to be ready by 2025. A fun fact reveals it took 11 years to create and distribute the blue security strip on the new $100 bills.
