Federal health officials have ordered that passengers at JFK will be screened for a deadly virus that has already killed two people.
From today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will take temperatures of passengers at JFK and Los Angeles and San Francisco international airports who have arrivals from the outbreak city of Wuhan. They will also ask passengers if they have been experiencing any unusual symptoms.
“To further protect the health of the American public during the emergence of this novel coronavirus, CDC is beginning entry screening at three ports of entry,” the center said.
“Investigations into this novel coronavirus are ongoing and we are monitoring and responding to this evolving situation,” the CDC’s Division of Global Migration and Quarantine said.
Around 5,000 passengers will be screened at different airports. As of now, authorities believe the threat level is low, despite the two deaths and 41 people who have been infected.
The US will begin screening for the new coronavirus from China at JFK, LAX, and SFO airports.
