Do You Agree? Jessica Alba Slams Marvel Movies For Lack Of Diversity, Calls Their Films ‘Still Quite Caucasian’

It’s been 17 years since Jessica Alba first played Sue Storm in 2005’s “Fantastic Four,” but the actress says she’s somewhat bothered by the lack of Marvel’s casting diversity since playing the iconic superhero, further stressing that their films are “still quite Caucasian.”

The mother-of-three, who is of Mexican descent, went on to star in the 2007 follow-up “Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer,” which arguably helped propel her to become one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood at the time. But even then, Jessica admits that she knew she “was one of the few” who were lucky enough to be cast as a lead in a superhero flick, seemingly referring to the fact that she herself is not Caucasian.

Now that it’s been almost two decades since helming her role as Sue, better known as Invisible Woman, Jessica is stunned that studios such as Marvel are still not welcoming the idea of being more open to casting people of color. “Even if you look at the Marvel movies – that’s the biggest driver of fantasy and what’s happening right now in entertainment because it’s sort of the family thing – it’s still quite Caucasian,” she told Glamour UK in a new interview.

“I would say I was one of the few back in the day… And it was before Marvel was sold to Disney, but it’s still quite more of the same. I would say I was one of the few back in the day… And it was before Marvel was sold to Disney, but it’s still quite more of the same.”

To Marvel’s defense, the company has made it their mission to be more inclusive in recent years, which fans have seen with movies such as “Black Panther,” and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Not to mention their Disney+ series, “Ms. Marvel” and hiring Anthony Mackie to take over as the new Captain America — but all of that still isn’t enough for Jessica.

“I just think more for the younger people who are coming up who are going to be our future leaders, it’s important for them to see the world on screen, or in stories, in the dreams that we create as entertainers; it reflects the world that they’re in,” she gushed.

“Fantastic Four” was generally well-received by critics, with its box office numbers amassing a whopping $167 million worldwide. The second installment proved to be an even bigger hit, generating a colossal $301 million. A third movie was reportedly in talks soon after, but plans were ultimately ditched following a heap of production issues, including Jessica’s rumored feud with director Tim Story, who is alleged to have told her to stop acting so hard in one of many uncalled for moments on set.
