The original cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore have released a statement saying they are not supporting the network’s decision to move ahead with a reboot of the popular reality show with an entirely new line-up. MTV announced earlier this week that the upcoming show will be titled Jersey Shore 2.0, and though there aren’t many details concerning what the program will be centered around, it’s assumed that it will follow the same format as its predecessor.

In a collective statement from the cast, Nicole ‘Snooki Polizzi, Vinny Guadagnino, Jenni ‘Jwoww’ Farley, Mike ‘The Situation Sorrentino, Angelina Pivarnick, Paul ‘Pauly D’ DelVecchio, and Deena Cortese, the group are in opposition to the decision, convinced that the reboot would “exploit” their 13-year run “to gain viewers.” Posted on Snooki’s Twitter, they wrote, “As a cast that took a chance with a network in need, we put our most vulnerable moments on television for the world to see.”

“We gave our all over the past 13 years, became a family and continue to open our lives to the world. So please understand that we are not in support of a version that will exploit our original show, our hard work and authenticity to gain viewers.” The statement concluded with the hashtag #WeAreJerseyShore. As previously mentioned, MTV announced plans to add a new version of Jersey Shore to its upcoming programming, adding that the adventure will continue “with a new group of roommates moving into their own Shore house.”

“They have traded their poofs for plumped pouts and UV rays for spray tans, but when things heat up in Jersey, the Shore is still the place to be to make memories all summer long,” MTV said in an official press release. Fans who have been watching the iconic reality show since the beginning will know that the first series premiered back in 2009 and was initially only going to run for one season.

But following its success, with ratings surpassing the expectations from network executives, a second series was ordered, which proved to be even bigger than the first. There were a whopping six seasons that ran between 2009 to 2012 before MTV invited the original cast back for a spin-off titled Family Vacation in 2018. The spin-off, which has spanned five seasons so far, has taken a huge hit in ratings, having averaged around 1.8 million viewers per episode in its first series to an average of just 500k viewers an episode with its most recent run, which concluded in March.

MTV has yet to respond to the cast’s comments regarding a new spin-off that won’t involve them. Furthermore, they also haven’t announced whether another series of Family Vacation will be airing on the network, as claimed in the group’s statement on Twitter.
