In a new documentary, Jennifer Lopez opens up about her personal life, including her “narcissistic” mother and father who “ignored her.” Following the release of her latest studio album ‘This Is Me… Now‘ and its accompanying visual album, J.Lo has released a new doc via Amazon Prime called, ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told,’ in which she claims that she didn’t receive enough love as a child from her parents.

While reflecting on her childhood in her documentary, J.Lo, who grew up in the Bronx, New York with two siblings, claimed that didn’t receive enough love from her parents Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez, who divorced in the ’90s. She said, “When I was growing up I was always looking for somebody to make me feel loved. I wasn’t the oldest and I wasn’t the youngest, I was a middle child, not the baby, not the first-born … you just kind of get lost a little bit in between it all.”

J.Lo, who is 54, has a 56-year-old sister named Leslie and a 52-year-old sister named Lynda. As she went on to speak about their parents, who do not appear in the documentary, the singer and actress said that she didn’t feel the love from either of them.

Opening up about her father, who was employed as a computer technician, J.Lo said, “I felt very ignored by my dad because he was always working nights then all day he would sleep and I didn’t feel like I had enough of a connection with him.” Jennifer Lopez then commented on her mother and said, “My mom was narcissistic, center of the attention, life of the party-type person.”

The songwriter and director has previously danced around her troubled relationship with her mother back in her 2022 Netflix documentary, ‘Halftime.’ She explained, “My mom is a super complicated woman and she carries a lot of baggage, she wanted us to be independent and never have to rely on a man. She did what she had to do to survive, and it made her strong, but it also made her tough. She beat the sh*t out of us.”

Jennifer Lopez and her accused “narcissistic” mother also bumped heads and took “a break” from one another after they fought about college. The singer went against her mother’s wishes and decided not to enroll. She said, “I didn’t want to go to college. I wanted to try dance full-time. So, she and I had a break. I started sleeping on the sofa in the dance studio. I was homeless, but I told her, ‘This is what I have to do.'”

Present day, Jennifer Lopez is back on good terms with both of her parents, especially her father, who has since remarried. For last year’s Father’s Day, she shared a tribute post to her Instagram for her dad. She said, “Daddy, I love you.” David replied, “Thank you, sweetheart, I love you more.”

Also in the documentary, J.Lo reflects on the abusive relationships she’s experienced, though she does not name any of her exes. She said, “Being thrown around and manhandled like that is not fun. I mean, I was never in a relationship where I got beat up, thank God. But I’ve definitely been manhandled and a couple of other unsavory things. Rough. Disrespectful.”
