Jeezy is opening up about his divorce from Jeannie Mai, revealing what he’s learned and what he’d do differently if he ever got married again. For the latter, he suggests either “premarital counseling” or to just skip marriage and have a “life partner.”
While appearing on the December 8 episode of Bishop T.D. Jakes‘ ‘NXT Chapter Podcast,’ Jeezy talked about his past traumas, his music career and fame, prison, becoming a man, and more. During the sit-down, the multiplatinum rapper, bestselling author, entrepreneur, and cultural icon spoke candidly and without a filter.
He shared several intimate stories from his childhood, including how he navigated trauma while trying to provide for his family at just 14 years old. He reflected on the loss of his friends and how he witnessed violence firsthand. It all led to him learning how to compartmentalize his emotions just to stay alive.
Additionally, he revealed that through traveling the world and encountering unexpected mentors, he soon learned to become a successful businessman.

Jeezy And Jeannie Mai’s Marriage And Divorce
While speaking with Bishop Jakes, Jeezy unpacks his traumas, mental health, leadership, plus his marriage and divorce from his daughter’s mother, Jeannie Mai. In 2019, Mai, 46, announced that she had started dating Jeezy, 48.
In April 2020, the couple got engaged. Then, in 2021, they got married at their home in Atlanta, Georgia in an intimate, COVID-friendly ceremony. After starting IVF treatments the day after their wedding, Mai soon announced she was pregnant with her fist child. In December 2021, Mai gave birth to a daughter, Monaco Mai Jenkins, who will be 4 on December 30.
Things then took a sharp turn in September 2023, when Jeezy filed for divorce from Jeannie Mai. Following the shocking news, the couple remained in headlines as things got messy in divorce and family court — with the other and their legal team spewing allegations of abuse, cheating, child gatekeeping, and other smear campaigns. In June 2024, Mai and Jeezy’s divorce was finally settled with an undisclosed agreement.

“I learned I was a great husband—I can be. I got a beautiful daughter out of the situation, so there is no regrets there. But, I learned a lot about myself. I learned that there’s things that I continue to work on. I learned about my preferences for things. The type of space that I need. The type of moments that I need to decompress about certain things. And this just, unselfish nature that I was selfish in my prior life. And I think just going forward in life, it just taught me how to give someone else grace and actually listen to understand rather than just listen to reply.”
Jeezy later revealed that if he ever decides to get married again, he would first undergo “premarital counseling.” He then ultimately shared that he’d rather a “life partner” than to get married again.
