Ahead of the highly anticipated release of “The Forever Purge,” Jason Blum & Ana de la Reguera sat down with us to get into all things Purge!

Despite being pushed back a year due to the pandemic, many of the themes within the storyline are prevalent into today’s society and somewhat reflect the experiences of the past year.

The latest installment in the franchise is set in Texas, and opens up with a couple crossing the Mexican border into the U.S, in hopes of a better life. Fast forward to thier current life in America, the couple work decent jobs, and they are faced with dealing with their first “Purge.”

Juan (Tenoch Huerta) and Adela (Ana de la Reguera) work in a poultry factory, and Juan works as a cowboy, employed by the Tucker family. Head of the family Caleb Tucker (Will Patton) is a rich white man who has begun to questions his privilege, while his son Dylan is prejudiced against the very immigrants who work for them. During the initial Purge, our main characters go unharmed, until a group of white supremacist activists plan out a never -ending Purge to cleanse America and get back at rich counterparts and minorities.

During the struggle to survive, our characters’ worlds collide and they must work together to reach the Mexican border as America is now under the siege of a crime pandemic that has burned cities to the ground.

While speaking to Ana and Jason, the pair spoke about how important the themes in the movie were in a way to highlight what is currently going on in society on the big screen. A pinnacle moment in the movie comes near the end when the American refugees are referred to as “American dreamers,” which is a nice contrast to what is going on with the US-Mexico border today. Ana reveals that this particular part of the movie was very important to her and was perfectly laid out.

Blum also sheds light on where the future of the franchise stands and if we could get more Purge movies in the future!
