James Harden Responds After Getting Backlash For “Blue Lives Matter” Mask: “I Thought It Looked Cool”

The Houston Rockets recently snapped a photo of their player James Harden rocking a Blue Lives Matter mask and it caused quite a stir on social media.

Singer Trey Songz initially called him out in a tweet saying, “This certified clown sh*t. I’ll say it for everybody who scared to. FOH.” Others also were quick to express the same sentiments. However, there were many people that came to Harden’s defense. Rapper Young Thug said, “James harden is my brada… btw he don’t have internet so he obviously don’t know what’s right or wrong if he posted something that’s against US…but I hate when rappers get in niggas biz like it’s can’t happen to em💥 buster let niggas clear they shit up activist.” Meek Mill added, “Y’all know damn well Jh don’t know what that mask meant because I don’t! He donate millions in real life to our people! End of story.”

Looks like Meek Mill was right because Harden has just spoken out to address the backlash and the NBA star says he just thought the mask was “cool.” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon explained a tweet that Harden was not trying to make a political statement. “It was just something that covered my whole beard. I thought it looked cool. That was it,” the star said. MacMahon added that Harden said, “he’s in process of determining how he will voice his support for the Black Lives Matter while in NBA bubble, including whether he will have a message on jersey.”

As many are aware, Blue Lives Matter is a countermovement if Black Lives Matter which instead advocates that those who are prosecuted and convicted of killing law enforcement officers should be sentenced under hate crime statutes.
