The sudden death of rising comedian Jak Knight, who starred in shows such as “Black-ish” and Netflix’s “Big Mouth,” has been ruled as suicide, it has been revealed. Fans of both shows were stunned to learn of the 28-year-old’s death last week, though details pertaining to his passing were still pending an investigation at the time.

An official autopsy done by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner declared in their report that Jak died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was discovered on an embankment in Los Angeles, and it still remains unclear what prompted the actor to take his life.

Jak certainly had a promising career ahead of him outside of the impressive credentials he already amassed as a TV actor. He frequently performed at stand-up gigs in LA and has even opened up for comedian veterans including Dave Chappelle and Joel McHale. In a previous interview, Jak even described Dave as his inspiration behind wanting to become a comedian.

“One hundred percent the reasons why I do what I do,” he admitted. Meanwhile, his time on “Big Mouth” also invited the opportunity to not just act but also write for the series — an experience Jak clearly had a lot of fun undertaking.

“Being a writer is amazing and just being in the room with some of the most brilliant people alive, and I get to sit across the table with people like Jordan Peele and Maya Rudolph,” he explained. “It’s surreal but it’s a lot of work, work.”

In a joint statement from his “Bust Down” cast, Universal Television and Peacock, they wrote, “We are devastated by the passing of Jak Knight. He was a brilliant comedian, visionary, and artist and we were all lucky to experience his greatness. Our hearts are with Jak’s family, friends, and community during this heartbreaking time.”

Even Comedy Central, who once called Jak a comic to watch, posted a tribute about him on their official Twitter account, describing him as “a hysterical and honest comedian. We will miss him tremendously.”
