Donald Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, continued his criticism of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz regarding how he represents his military background.

As we previously reported, The first night of the Democratic National Convention took place yesterday and showcased tons of speech’s by many people. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opened up about the possibility of finally shattering the “glass ceiling” to elect a woman as president. President Joe Biden criticized Trump and specifically addressed the worries of protesters who were demonstrating against the war in Gaza just a few blocks away from the convention center. Also former Bulls player Steve Kerr referenced Steph Curry, saying “night, night” in relation to how he wants the election turn out in November.

Well after the first night went viral and was shared all over social media, JD Vance spoke with reporters to throw some more personal attacks on Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. In a new clip Vance can be heard giving his theory on why he thinks the DNC is being held in Chicago.

“My little theory about why they decided to have the convention in Chicago: Tim Walz has been going around saying that he served in war and maybe they did it in Chicago so he could accurately say he visited a combat zone,” he said.

In the past, Vance accused Walz of avoiding service in Iraq when he left the Army National Guard to run for Congress in 2005. He also claimed that Walz misrepresented his military experience by stating he had served in a combat zone while in the National Guard.

“When the United State Marine Corps, when the United States of America asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did it. I did what they asked me to do, and I did it honorably and I’m very proud of that service. When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, you know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him,” Vance said.

Although Walz retired just two months before his unit received deployment orders for Iraq, these attacks on his military record are part of a broader strategy by both parties to shape the image of the relatively unknown governor, who was recently chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate. Walz’s 24 years of military service is one of the appealing aspects of his background that the Harris campaign hopes will resonate with voters, while Republicans are attempting to counter this narrative by portraying him as an disconnected liberal.
