In the wake of recent events, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has made a significant decision to impose a “complete siege” on Gaza. This action comes as a response to the horrific attack carried out by Hamas fighters, who infiltrated southern Israeli towns in a surprise weekend attack. In order to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, the Israeli authorities have taken measures such as cutting electricity and blocking the entry of food and fuel.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant announced the order of a “complete siege” on Gaza, this Monday. It was also reported, that Infrastructure Minister Israel Katz has ordered an immediate cutoff of Israel’s water supplies to Hamas-run Gaza, saying “What was in the past, will no longer be in the future.”

While the Israeli military said fighting in border towns has largely died down…for now, they will continue to fight Hamas in “seven to eight” places in southern Israel. Per CNN, Hamas has claimed that these attacks are in retaliation for Israel’s escalated aggression in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

As of Sunday, it was reported that the weekend attack killed more than 700 people in Israel, including at least 260 at a crowded music festival that became the scene of one of the country’s worst civilian massacres. Preliminary reports indicated that at least four U.S. citizens were killed in the attacks, and seven more were missing, a U.S. official said.

How Is The US Reacting?

As we previously reported, President Biden has released a statement offering his condolences and support to Israel following the surprise attack.

He said on Saturday, “I spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu about the horrific and ongoing attacks in Israel.  The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel. Terrorism is never justified. Israel has a right to defend itself and its people. The United States warns against any other party hostile to Israel seeking advantage in this situation.  My Administration’s support for Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering.”

He continued, “Jill and I are keeping in our prayers all of the families who have been hurt by this violence. We are heartbroken by the lives that have been tragically cut short and hope for a swift recovery for all those who have been wounded. My team and I are tracking this situation closely, and I will remain in close touch with Prime Minister Netanyahu.”
