Island Express claims that Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna were aware that their helicopter ride could result in an accident as reported in several documents.
In an exclusive report by TMZ, the company had a response to Vanessa Bryant’s wrongful death lawsuit and basically said Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter were well aware of the risks associated with the helicopter ride. The documents also state Vanessa Bryant had no case against Island Express Helicopter Co.:

“Kobe Bryant and GB [Gigi] had actual knowledge of all of the circumstances, particular dangers, and an appreciation of the risks involved and the magnitude thereof, and proceeded to encounter a known risk, and voluntarily assumed the risk of the accident, injury … thereby barring or reducing [Vanessa’s] claim for damages.”

Island Express also called the accident an “Act of God” due to the blinding fog as a contributing factor to the deadly crash. The company also blamed the 8 passengers who board the aircraft for their untimely deaths and called the lawsuit invalid due to their own negligence.
The documents further that the company said helicopter flying is dangerous and the pilot should have issued a warning before take-off.
