Lawd! Socialites, Irv Gotti is spilling ALL the beans on the latest episode of ‘Drink Champs.’ Irv says his romance with his former artist Ashanti “helped” her career — and that after “sleeping together,” her hit single “Happy” is proof enough.
Irv Gotti Says Romance With Ashanti ‘Helped’ Her Career; Claims “Happy” Was Conceived After ‘Sleeping Together’
While Nelly and Ashanti tease Irv at a recent concert, another clip of the Murder Inc. CEO speaking on Ashanti is going viral.
** If you’re unfamiliar with the first clip – Irv said that he learned about Ashanti and Nelly’s relationship while he was at home waiting on her. Meanwhile, the singer was out at a basketball game and with the St. Louis rapper, causing a huge commotion. **
Now, this time, Irv is going viral as he recalls a time that he and The Princess of Hip-Hop & R&B allegedly smashed, giving him the creatives juices to go and produce a big hit for her.
In the clip, ‘Drink Champs‘ host Noreaga aka N.O.R.E. asks Irv if his romantic relationship with Ashanti ever got in the way of them doing business together.
Irv proudly responds back, “It helped her.” Irv goes on to explain how Ashanti’s big single “Happy” was proof that them being an item did good for her music career.
Irv says, “So, ‘Happy,’ let me explain how the lyrics and how I worked her… So, we’re together.”
N.O.R.E. interrupts and asks Irv if he had ever bought the singer a matching watch or designer bags, etc. Irv says, “I bought her mad sh*t.”
In the background, Irv’s other artist and Ashanti’s former label-mate Ja Rule, makes it be known that he had no idea about any of what Irv was talking about.
Continuing his story, Irv says, “We just finished sleeping together, or whatever, I’m taking a shower. I’m in the shower, you know, a n***a be creative after [sex] … I think of the whole track in the shower”
Irv says after getting out, he called his producer Chink Santana to give him the melody and rest of the vision he had just thought of in the shower.
After getting to the studio, Irv says, “Okay, now it’s time for you to write. Yo, I want the sh*t to be a feel-good joint, like summertime … The energy, that record came about ’cause of our energy.”
When N.O.R.E. asks Irv if he “missed that energy a little bit,” Irv replied back, “Not anymore … Twenty years ago when we stopped.”
