India Arie Doubles Down On Boycotting Spotify & Again Blasts Joe Rogan Over N-Word Use
Within the last month, Soul singer India Arie has been extremely vocal over the music industry being “racist, sexist and deceitful.” She recently announced her boycotting Spotify over its star podcaster Joe Rogan and his controversial race comments and his use of the n-word.
Her boycotting included her pulling her music from the platform along with her own podcast. This all followed recent controversial comments from Rogan, and his “problematic” language around race. Earlier this week, Arie explained her actions, joining Canadian-American singer Neil Young — who also left the platform over Rogan’s recent, controversial coronavirus comments.
Clarifying her comments, Arie now says, “[Joe Rogan] shouldn’t even be uttering the [n-]word. Don’t even say it, under any context. That’s where I stand. I have always stood there.” She continues to then blast Spotify, “We have this person who is offensive to a lot of people and is paid $100 million. The backbone of Spotify is the music. You pay the musicians .003-.005 percent of a penny and take this money generated over here and use it to invest in this guy? Do you what you want, but take me off. Or pay me too. I mean us. Pay artists like me too. Pay podcasters of color too.”
