Jennette McCurdy, who formerly starred on the hit Nickelodeon shows ‘iCarly‘ and spin-off ‘Sam & Cat,’ is revisiting previously mentioned claims about her tumultuous relationship with her mother, Debra, who passed away from breast cancer in 2013. McCurdy recently recalled alleged details of her mother showering her and giving her “breast and vaginal exams” until she was 18 years old.

Nearly a year ago in August 2022, we shared McCurdy’s initial claims of exploitation and abuse in her memoir, ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died.’ In an excerpt from the piece, McCurdy recalled her time as a child actor, and alleged that she was sexualized on-set, and pressured into drinking alcohol by an intimidating figure called “The Creator.”

The ‘iCarly‘ alum also alleged that her mother never attempted to intervene when these moments happened, instead she said she was told, “Everyone wants what you have.” McCurdy said, “My whole childhood and adolescence were very exploited. There were cases where people had the best intentions and maybe didn’t know what they were doing. And also cases where they did — they knew exactly what they were doing.”

McCurdy also claimed that executives at Nickelodeon didn’t allow her to explore other ventures to boost her career, but that they played favorites with Ariana Grande, leading McCurdy to become jealous of her. She also alleged that they offered her $300,000 to keep quiet about her experiences. Then at the end of the first season of ‘Sam & Cat,’ her mother died.

The actor admitted that she was counting down the days before the show ended. She said, “I’m starting to expect I’ll have a bulimia-induced heart attack. I’m mortified to admit it, but a part of me actually wishes I would. The f*ck? Nickelodeon is offering me three hundred thousand dollars in hush money to not talk pubmomlicly about my experience on the show? My personal experience of The Creator’s abuse? This is a network with shows made for children. Shouldn’t they have some sort of moral compass? Shouldn’t they at least try to report to some sort of ethical standard?”

In her memoir, McCurdy also spoke on her mother’s alleged controlling and abusive behavior that saw her being forced to audition for shows and work on sets at age 6, leading to eating disorders, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Then in September 2022, the ‘iCarly‘ alum went on the now-defunct ‘Red Table Talk‘ and claimed that her mother used to make her shower with her older brother, Scotty. She said when she was 11, her mother still thought it was appropriate for her and her then-15-year-old brother to shower together. She said, “He’s almost 16 at this point. I get really embarrassed when she showers us together. I can tell he does too.”

Since her bombshell memoir release and ‘Red Table Talk‘ follow-up interview, McCurdy is now sharing more details about her mother’s alleged abuse. While speaking on the ‘Louis Theroux Podcast‘ on Monday (July 10), the now-31-year-old said the joint bathing happened until she “was 17 or 18.” She said while fully clothed in the shower, her mother would be “shampooing and conditioning [her] hair and washing [her] body.”

The ‘iCarly‘ alum added, “She would give me breast and vaginal exams in the shower and said that she was checking for lumps — she was just checking for cancer.” She admitted that she felt “uncomfortable” and “violated,” but she could never “ever try to shower [herself] again” after she tried to bring it up and her mom allegedly laughed “hysterically.”
