Larry Flynt, the infamous founder of adult entertainment magazine Hustler, has died at the age of 78.

Flynt’s nephew Jimmy Flynt Jr. said his uncle died at his Hollywood Hills home on Wednesday due to heart failure and had frail health prior to his death. The adult industry mogul is known for launching “Hustler” magazine in 1974 and becoming one of the most polarizing figures in pop culture. He also faced several legal troubles due to the content of his magazine.
In the 1980s, Flynt was once sued by televangelist Jerry Falwell after the magazine published a cartoon alleging that the preacher had a sexual relationship with his mother. Falwell claimed libel and said the cartoon caused him emotional distress. However, the Supreme Court ruled that the cartoon was a parody and Falwell couldn’t take further legal action.

The mogul was also shot by a sniper in 1978 and it left him paralyzed from the waist down. Since the shooting, it has left him with several medical issues. Flynt opened the Hustler Casino in Los Angeles and was the president of Larry Flynt Publications which also produced magazines and adult films.
