Hunter Biden Says He Used To Frantically ‘Pick Through Rugs’ For Crack Cocaine
In his memoir, ‘Beautiful Struggles: A Memoir,’ President Joe Biden‘s son Hunter Biden is opening up about his battle with substance abuse. Ahead of the book’s Tuesday (Apr. 6) release, he spoke with CBS Sunday Morning about the times he would frantically “pick through rugs” for crack cocaine.
In addition to the ongoing FBI investigation into his finances for tax fraud and his business dealings with Ukraine, Biden’s memoir is covering it all. But, while giving Tracy Smith and CBS viewers a preview, he admits, “I spent more time on my hands and knees picking through rugs, smoking anything that even remotely resembled crack cocaine. I probably smoked more parmesan cheese than anyone that you know. I mean, I went one time for 13 days without sleeping, and smoking crack and drinking vodka exclusively throughout that entire time.”

In another interview with CBS This Morning co-host Anthony Mason, Biden recalls a family intervention at his father’s Wilmington home ahead of the 2020 presidential election. He says, “I tried to go to my car. And my girls literally blocked the door to my car. Said, ‘Dad, Dad, please. You can’t. No, no.’ This was the hardest part of the book to write. And my father grabbed me, gave a bear hug, and he just cried and said, ‘I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do.” When asked what he thought when he heard that, Biden says, “I thought, I need to figure out a way to tell him that I’m going to do something, so that I can go take another hit. That’s the only thing I could think. Literally, that’s how powerful. I don’t know of a force more powerful that my family’s love — except addiction.”
