On Saturday, February 22nd, Hollywood Unlocked was on the carpet at the Regal theatre at LA Live to talk with the cast of the upcoming film.
If you have not seen the trailer or the film, it dives into the struggles Ben Affleck’s character Jack Cunningham is facing having been an alcoholic and now looking to return to an old passion of his in order to find a way to redemption.
While this film tackles some serious topics when it comes to addiction, the cast also shared that basketball is a huge element of getting this story told.
For those cast members who played basketball team members, they shared that prior to filming, the director, Gavin O’Connor looked for young men who actually had a basketball background which made the scenes look and feel more real.
When it came to casting the film, O’Connor was very specific in who he was choosing given the history of Ben’s personal battles with rehabilitation being that he is a recovering alcoholic.
Even when speaking with Glynn Turman, he shared that while on set, things were very serious and emotions were at an all-time high given the real-life situations that each actor had been dealing with. For Turman, he had just lost his ex-wife, the legendary Aretha Franklin while filming so he was able to channel his emotions from that and put them into filming.
Overall the movie told an amazing story! Take a look at the recap up top, catch the film in theaters now, and let us know what you think in the Yappa comments.
