While there, former Los Angeles Lakers front man Kobe Bryant talked to the audience about the importance of this film.
Using an analogy from the game of basketball, Kobe praised Bryan Stephenson who’s life makes up the storyline of the film for the work he has done and continues to do for the prison reform system.
Stephenson addressed the audience calling for change and for people to get involved. He also spoke about the overall message of the film sharing that it’s not only about his work trying to get people off of death row, but also about the people who have been oppressed through it all.
Without giving any spoilers, Stephenson is credited for freeing over 130 innocent people from death row alongside his team at the Equal Justice Initiative.
Michael B. Jordan portrays Stephenson alongside Jamie Foxx who portrays convicted death row inmate Walter McMillian. The film also stars Brie Larson as Eva Ansley and O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Karan Kendrick.
