A Houston teacher has been charged with child sex trafficking and prostitution after allegedly recruiting troubled students for her son and paying them for alleged services rendered.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez states that 42-year-old Kedria Grigsby, a former cosmetology teacher at Klein Cain High School, was arrested on Monday (April 8). The former Houston teacher now faces several felony charges, including sex trafficking and compelling prostitution on juveniles. Before her arrest, it was reported that Grigsby’s son, 22-year-old Roger Magee, was arrested in November 2022 on sex trafficking and prostitution charges and remains in jail.

On Tuesday (April 9), Grigsby waived her court appearance, however, she was issued a bond set at $750,000, which breaks down to $125,000 for each of her 6 charges.

According to an email issued from Klein ISD officials, the Houston teacher was hired during the 2019-2020 school year after “passing a state background check at that time.” After the Harris County Sheriff’s Office alerted the district of the Houston teacher’s impending arrest, Grigsby was “relieved of her teaching duties,” and parents were informed later that day in a letter.

The letter read, “As soon as we were notified of this information, the district took immediate action, apprehended, and immediately placed Ms. Grigsby on administrative leave. Klein ISD has NO intention of allowing this individual back to Klein Cain or any Klein ISD school, and we will report to all appropriate agencies at the conclusion of the investigation.”

Following the school’s emailed statement, Sheriff Gonzalez provided additional details on X (formerly Twitter). He said there were three victims in the case, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 17-year-old, who were all reported as troubled students and runaways.

In his statement, the Sheriff said, “It appears Grigsby recruited troubled juveniles from local high schools by offering them a place to stay, which would be a hotel. Additional teen victims have come forward stating that Grigsby was also attempting to recruit them while attending school.”

The Sheriff also alleges that the former Houston teacher recruited her own students and was working with her son, in what they referred to as a “prostitution enterprise.” Investigators even found text messages exchanged between Grigsby and her son, plus messages between him and three victims, allegedly discussing payments of “prostitution fees” and how they would be transferred.

Officials also say that Grigsby allegedly paid for at least one hotel room and when an officer walked inside to investigate, one of the victims walked in and then quickly ran back outside to get into Grigsby’s car and flee the scene. This case is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Trafficking Unit. Prosecutors in the case say they anticipate more victims to come forward and more charges to be filed.

It’s also reported that before the former Houston teacher’s arrest and termination, she was allegedly allowed to continue teaching at the school despite prior serious trafficking allegations. In response to the allegations raised by community activists, Klein ISD denied the claims and said they promptly alerted the Sheriff’s Office upon receiving the initial report.

Klein ISD’s Director of Communications, Chelsea Ceballos, stated, “Once again, the information shared by Quanell X and Candace Matthews is completely false. The facts are that an individual notified us that she filed a report in Harris County related to former employee Keidra Grigsby in February 2023. That same day, our Klein ISD Police Department immediately contacted the Sheriff’s Office with the case number provided to us by the individual, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that Keidra Grigsby was not a suspect.”

The statement continued, “The next time we heard anything related to Keidra Grigsby was this Monday when the Sheriff’s Office contacted our police department regarding pending charges. The Klein Police Department then immediately apprehended Keidra Grigsby and assisted the Sheriff’s Office with her arrest. Again, any behavior harming children is deplorable, and we will always fully cooperate with our many law enforcement partners to ensure anyone engaging in such acts is brought to justice.”
