House Democrats Preparing Second Coronavirus Stimulus Proposal For $1.2 Trillion
Axios reports that the House Democrats are already preparing a second coronavirus stimulus proposal for a whopping $1.2 trillion. It would be known as CARES2, and could hit the floor for a vote as early as this week.
While Republicans claim they’re still waiting to receive billions of aid from the first $2.2 trillion CARES Act, the Democrats have already crafted a new package without help from the GOP or the White House.

In the new proposal, which is still being drafted and is subject to change, Democrats expect to have approximately $1 trillion sent to state and local governments, $25 billion sent to keep the U.S. Postal Service afloat, plus additional money sent to hospitals and COVID-19 testing, Medicaid and unemployment insurance, and another round of direct payments sent to Americans.
The House also says they’re working on ensuring the funds aren’t allocated to people who are “double dipping,” for example an unemployment recipient who’s also receiving monies via the Paycheck Protection Program — which has yet to be determined if it will be replenished.
At the moment, the proposal is still in drafting status, and has to hit the floor for a vote, but could very well make its way this week.
