As expected, the House on Wednesday approved President Biden’s sweeping $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, providing aid to most American households.

House Democrats passed the legislation on party line vote of 220-211. Of course, no Republicans voted in favor. However, one Democrat did vote against the bill: Rep. Jared Golden of Maine. The passage of the wide-ranging rescue package is the first legislative victory in the Biden era.
The American Rescue Plan provides $1,400 direct payments to individuals making up to $75,000 annually, $350 billion in aid to state and local governments and $14 billion for vaccine distribution. It also provides $130 billion to elementary, middle and high schools to assist with safe reopening.
The House needed to approve the new changes before the bill could make its way to the president’s desk. Last week, the Senate made a number of significant changes to the House bill, including the elimination of the $15 minimum wage hike, limitations to stimulus check eligibility and changes to unemployment insurance.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said President Biden will sign the American Rescue plan Friday.
