Holy War Emerges As Church Leaders Blast Pope Francis’ Support Of Same Sex Unions

A holy war is reportedly brewing between Catholic church leaders who are in opposition of Pope Francis’s recent support of same-sex unions.

American Catholic leaders claim Francis’ words are causing confusion and contradicting traditional teachings.

Cardinal Raymond Burke, a critic of Francis, said his words should be “rightly interpreted as simple private opinions of the person who made them.”

“Such declarations generate great bewilderment and cause confusion and error among Catholic faithful,” Burke said.

As we reported, Francis said,

“Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it.”

Bishop Thomas Tobin from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, echoed Burkes comments adding that the pope’s statement “clearly contradicts what has been the long-standing teaching of the Church about same-sex unions.”

“The Church cannot support the acceptance of objectively immoral relationships,” Tobin said in a statement. “Individuals with same-sex attraction are beloved children of God and must have their personal human rights and civil rights recognized and protected by law. However, the legalization of their civil unions, which seek to simulate holy matrimony, is not admissible.”

Others referred to the Pope’s comments as ‘dangerous.’
