Hollywood Unlocked, in partnership with Hidden Empire and Draymond & Hazel Green, hosted a powerful special screening of The Woman King — a film starring Viola Davis that celebrates the strength, resilience, and legacy of Black women on and off the screen.

The exclusive event brought together a community of young women, celebrities, and supporters to highlight the importance of championing Black stories in film.
Hollywood Unlocked was live on the carpet to capture all the unforgettable moments from this inspiring night.

In The Woman King, Viola Davis leads an epic story based on the real-life Agojie — the all-female warrior unit who protected the West African Kingdom of Dahomey (modern-day Benin) in the 1800s. Davis has been open about the intense physical preparation required for the role, proving she’s a warrior both on and off the screen.

The Power Behind the Camera

The Woman King doesn’t just make history in front of the lens — it’s equally historic behind the scenes.
Nicole Brown, an executive at Sony’s TriStar Pictures, played a key role in bringing the project to life, and the film was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, a trailblazing filmmaker best known for classics like Love & Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees, and her early writing work on A Different World.

Their leadership behind the camera highlights the growing influence of Black women storytellers in Hollywood — and why films like The Woman King are so crucial in today’s climate.
