Actor Hill Harper has announced that he is running for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat. Harper, who is best known for his roles on “The Good Doctor” and “CSI: NY,” revealed Monday that he is joining the Democratic primary field seeking to replace the retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich.
Harper made the announcement via Instagram where he pinned a video to his page with the caption reading, “We can all feel it. D.C just isn’t getting things done for people – because special interest always comes first. As a union organizer, single dad, and business owner, I would understand the challenges Michiganders are facing right now.” He said.
He continued, They demand a senator who will do what’s right for ALL of us – not just lobbyists. That’s why today, I’m announcing my campaign for U.S senate! Believe I’m better and please join our movement.”
In addition to his acting career, Hill Harper is also an accomplished author. He has written several books, including “Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny” and “Letters to an Incarcerated Brother.” These books aim to provide guidance and inspiration to young people, particularly African-American men, facing various challenges in life.
Harper is actively involved in philanthropy and social activism. He founded the Manifest Your Destiny Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering underserved youth through mentorship, scholarships, and educational programs.
Throughout his career, Hill Harper has received several awards and accolades for his work in both acting and social advocacy. He continues to be involved in various film, television, and philanthropic projects, using his platform to address important social issues and inspire positive change.

Harper spoke with The Detroit News and said the Senate needs a “richness” of diversity, including life experience, and that he’d help fill that void.
“As an example, if I’m elected to the U.S. Senate, I will be the only U.S. senator who is a current dues-paying, card-carrying union member. If I’m elected to the U.S. Senate, I will be one of very few small business owners in the U.S. Senate and, I believe, the only Democrat,” Harper said.
