As we previously shared on social media, a mass shooting occurred in Highland Park, Illinois on the morning of Monday (July 4). Highland Park is considered as an affluent Chicago suburb.

The fatal shooting happened during the town’s annual 4th of July Parade — an event that had not been held in the town since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As the citizens of the town celebrated the fourth of July and made their way through the town with their parade, a gunman opened fire.

Police say a gunman used a “high-powered rifle” and was apparently shooting down at people from a rooftop, as the parade made its way through the town around 10:15 a.m. local time.

Christopher Covelli of the Lake County sheriff’s office and the Lake County major crimes task force says that the gunman “was very discreet and very difficult to see.” He called the crime “very random, very intentional.”

He aded that the gunman, who shot down from a rooftop, used an “unsecured” ladder to climb up to his vantage point.

Local law enforcement officials say that the rifle has since been recovered and that they launched a massive manhunt for the suspect late Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 5 p.m. local time, police identified through “investigative leads,” that 22 year old Robert E. “Bobby” Crimo III is believed to be their suspect.

Police believe he was the man driving the 2019 silver Honda Fit with the license plate number DM 80653, a vehicle that was seen nearby the crime scene.

Authorities also say that they used drones, dogs and a helicopter to help them track down the suspect. They also said that they had reviewed the ownership history of the rifle by having it examined by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

At the time of publishing this article, police say that all of the victims have been identified and families are in the process of being notified before names are made public.

Dr. Brigham Temple of the Highland Park Hospital has been treating the victims. Dr. Temple said that 25 of the 26 people treated by him were gunshot victims and that 19 of them had been treated and sent home.

Dr. Temple says that the ages of his patients ranged from age 8 years old to 85 years old, adding that about “four or five” of the victims are children, and that some of them had “much more severe” conditions than others.
