The Tragic Loss of Kianna Jackson

A Mississippi family is mourning a deep, unimaginable loss after 25-year-old Kianna Jackson was shot and killed at a McDonald’s in Brandon, Mississippi. The mother of two was taken from this world far too soon—gunned down in a senseless act of violence that has left her loved ones devastated.

According to WLBT/Gray News, the tragedy unfolded Monday around 7 p.m. at the McDonald’s on 132 Stribling Lane. Authorities say Kianna was shot and killed at the scene by a man identified as 27-year-old Jhonterryes Dampier, who then turned the gun on himself in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide.

While Dampier was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, officials confirm that he died from his injuries two days later, on Wednesday. As of now, police haven’t released any clear motive behind the shooting, but an investigation is underway to piece together what led to this devastating outcome.

A Mother Remembered and A Family Left to Pick Up the Pieces

In the aftermath of this heartbreaking loss, Kianna’s family is left grappling not only with grief but the overwhelming cost of laying her to rest. A GoFundMe page has been launched to help raise money for funeral and burial services, which the family says are beyond their financial means.

“As we navigate this painful time, we want to honor Kianna’s life with the memorial and funeral service she deserves. Unfortunately, the financial burden is more than we can manage on our own,” the family shared on the fundraiser.

The family also noted that any money remaining after funeral expenses will be placed into a trust fund for Kianna’s children, ensuring they are supported even in her absence.

Community Calls for Change

While police haven’t confirmed whether Kianna and Dampier had any prior relationship, the pattern of gun violence against women—especially Black women—has communities calling for better prevention efforts and more protective resources.

The investigating is currently ongoing.
