Heartbreaking news coming out of the UK: British middleweight boxer Sherif Lawal has tragically passed away after collapsing during his professional debut. The fight organizers have confirmed the heartbreaking news, leaving the boxing community in shock and mourning.
The showdown happened Sunday with Lawal getting in the ring with Portuguese opponent, Malam Varela. During the fourth round of their scheduled six-round contest, Malam knocked Lawal down. The referee, Lee Every, promptly waved off the fight.
Paramedics immediately rushed to Lawal’s aid at the scene, providing medical assistance and was then transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Despite the tireless efforts of the paramedics, the 29-year-old boxer sadly succumbed to his condition.

Warren Boxing Management, the promoters of the event, expressed their deep sadness and condolences in a statement, saying, “Unfortunately during Sherif’s fight, he collapsed, and despite the best efforts of the paramedics, he was later pronounced dead.”
The British Boxing Board of Control also released a statement, extending their sympathies to Lawal’s family during this tragic time. “Condolences to the family of Sherif Lawal following his tragic passing. The thoughts of all those involved in boxing in Great Britain are with them at this difficult time.”
The fight, which was the first on the card, was immediately canceled following the devastating incident. As of right now, the exact cause of death has not yet revealed. He was just 29 years old.
