Allison McCarthy, 27, revealed her hygiene habits in a TikTok video that sparked debate. Despite the fact that she only showers, two to three times per week and once went five days without showering. ‘ This is because most girls when they say that they wash their hair twice a week, they literally mean wash their hair – and they shower every day. I’ve gone five days without showering before,’ she explained.

McCarthy goes to the gym and works in healthcare, but she doesn’t practice good hygiene, according to commentators. In response, McCarthy said, ‘I don’t smell and I don’t need to wash my hair so why would I shower?’

According to the Daily Mail, one user wrote, ‘She literally has NO excuse for not showering, she has a skincare routine, gym routine, works as a NURSE.’ Another user said they couldn’t go a day without taking a shower.
‘The only thing that threw me is working in healthcare and not showering. I work on health care and shower twice a day especially if I worked that day’
Other users, however, said they could relate to McCarthy because they work from home and don’t shower often because of their work schedule. Some argue that taking fewer showers is actually beneficial to your skin.
‘THANK YOU for talking about this. showering is so exhausting!! how do people do it so much???’
McCarthy also explained to the Daily Mail that she didn’t expect the video to become viral and said everyone is different when it comes to their hygiene practices.
‘I didn’t realize so many people would have such a strong opinion about it. I had a lot of people reach out and message me privately and tell me that they were happy that I spoke about it and that they weren’t alone. I was happy that I could make others not feel so ashamed or bad about themselves. I would say, be a little more compassionate to people. You have no idea what someone is going through and how an “easy” everyday task for you may not be for someone else.’
She added that she knows people who don’t use deodorant and they never smell plus people have different skin conditions.
”There were people saying they have skin conditions such as eczema and showering every day dries their skin out.’
