Meanwhile, one witness, Christie Hutchinson spoke with Hawaii News Now and said that she caught the whole thing as she was gearing up to haul her boat in from the harbor. She said that she had hit the water earlier that morning with her husband and some friends.
Then suddenly, she saw a car drive down the boat ramp and head straight into the water. Hutchinson said, “Pretty sure that wasn’t supposed to happen. I think they just must’ve taken their eyes off the road for a second. I was just sitting there trying to seek shelter from the rain, and then the next thing, I saw a car drive directly past our boat straight into the harbor at a pretty decent speed.”

The shocked witness said that she pulled out her phone and filmed the van driving off the ramp and into the water. The video has since gone viral on social media.
The crazy footage shows the van’s driver smiling and looking around confused. Instead of being shocked and alarmed at what was happening, things moved so quick, they really didn’t have time to process.
Hutchinson added, “I think everyone is a bit shocked. It took us a second to figure out what was going on because they didn’t seem panicked or have any sense of urgency to get out of the car.”
Hutchinson went on to reveal that her husband sprung into action and quickly helped the driver escape the van as it continued to sink into the harbor. Meanwhile, the passenger was able to escape through a window on her own.
Now, by the time emergency personnel arrived to the scene, the Caravan had been fully submerged underwater, and had to be towed out later.
