According to NBC News, two sources told them that a 72-year-old convicted Weinstein — whose alleged sexual misconduct fueled 2017’s viral #MeToo movement and who was recently indicted on new charges — has a new health update revealing a new diagnosis.

NBC News reports that their sources claim Weinstein is undergoing treatment in prison at Rikers Island in New York. On Monday (October 21), Weinstein’s legal healthcare representative Craig Rothfeld in part told NBC, “Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.”

Additionally, sources told The New York Post, that the former film producer learned about his diagnosis earlier this month, however, his reps initially denied the diagnosis when contacted by The Post. They later condemned “speculation” around the status of his health.

At the time, The Post was told, “Craig Rothfeld, Mr. Weinstein’s authorized legal healthcare representative in New York State, expresses profound dismay at the speculation surrounding Mr. Weinstein’s medical condition. It is both troubling and unacceptable that such private and confidential health matters have become a subject of public discourse. Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.”

As mentioned, Harvey Weinstein now being diagnosed with bone marrow cancer while awaiting his second trial on sex crimes charges arrives after a myriad of health issues he’s been facing since his legal woes began. Last month, the disgraced entertainment mogul underwent emergency heart surgery to remove a significant amount of fluid in his lungs and heart. Before that, in July, he was hospitalized and tested positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia.

As he now battles bone marrow cancer, Harvey Weinstein is also embroiled in a legal battle with Manhattan prosecutors as they attempt to combine his original 2020 sexual crimes case with a new criminal indictment. Prosecutors are looking to consolidate the new charges with the previous ones so that they can be tried in court together.

Earlier this year, Harvey Weinstein’s New York conviction, for which he was serving a 23-year sentence, was overturned. New York’s Court of Appeals said the judge in the landmark trial prejudiced the disgraced mogul with improper rulings, including the decision to let women testify about allegations that weren’t even a part of his case.

Despite his overturned conviction, Weinstein was not set free because he was previously convicted in 2022 of rape in Los Angeles and sentenced to 16 years in prison — another case his legal team is trying to appeal.
