Harvey Weinstein is facing up to a maximum of 29 years after he was found guilty of a criminal sex act for forcibly performing oral sex on a woman in 2006 and for third-degree rape for a 2013 attack on another woman, which carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison. Sentencing is set for Wednesday. However, his lawyers are getting a head start on asking the judge for a lighter sentence.
According to Fox News, Weinstein’s team reportedly begged a New York City judge for leniency citing numerous health ailments that the 67-year-old faces and pointing to past charitable donations he made while he was in his powerful Hollywood position… His defense team also wrote in court papers that the disgraced movie mogul suffered a “historic” fall from grace as a result of the #MeToo case, and because of that, they’re asking that he only serve five years in the slammer.
Meanwhile, prosecutors on the other hand have urged the judge to give Weinstein a longer sentence which will act as a deterrent and reflect his lack of remorse.
