Just hours after the disgraced movie producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison for multiple sex crimes by a New York State Supreme Court judge, he’s back in Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital, complaining of “chest pains” once again. According to reports, the 67-year old claimed he was experiencing pain and medical staff at Rikers Island decided it was best he go to the hospital, just six days after he left that very facility.
A spokesperson for the producer told Deadline,
“Mr. Weinstein is being taken to Bellevue Hospital Ward to treat him for his ongoing heart problems and chest pains.” They added, “In addition, a complication related to his back surgery is going to be evaluated. We are incredibly appreciative of the level of care and attention the NYC Dept. of Corrections is showing regarding Mr. Weinstein’s medical condition and we are hopeful he will be held overnight for observation given his recent heart procedure less than a week ago and his ongoing medical issues.”
When he finally recovers, Weinstein will spend 23 years in a New York State prison after being sentenced by Supreme Court Judge James Burke. As we previously reported, he was convicted Feb. 24 of committing a criminal sexual act in the first degree and third-degree rape. However, his team said they will appeal the jury’s decision to convict him on two of the five charges he faced.
