Police have released harrowing bodycam footage that shows the moment ER star Vanessa Marquez was fatally shot by police after brandishing a replica gun and screaming ‘kill me’ during a regular welfare check to her home.
The Daily Mail reports that Marquez, 49, was cooped up in her bedroom surrounded by clutter when a friend asked for a welfare check on her, August 30, 2018.
“I’m not going,” the actress can be heard telling the officers when they inform her that she needs to be taken into custody for safety reasons. At this point, the video shows her pull out a pair of scissors and what is later discovered to be a BB gun.
“Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, s**t, she’s got a gun. She’s got a gun. Gun! Gun! Gun!’ said one officer.
The cops beg Marquez to drop the gun while they remain at the bottom of the stairs, but she continues to hold the weapon at them before being shot. A total of twelve round were fired, and she died from two gunshot wounds.
Two rounds were fired at Marquez and she was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead from wounds to the torso.
The release of the video comes as the Los Angeles County prosecutors determined that no charges would be filed against the two South Pasadena Officers Gilberto Carrillo and Christopher Perez.
Head deputy district attorney Shannon Presby said that, “In this incident, the evidence demonstrates that Carrillo and Perez actually and reasonably believed Marquez posed an imminent threat of great bodily injury or death.”
