Socialites… get into this. A NewsChannel5 Media reporter named Hannah McDonald revealed that her mother-in-law, who works at the Covenant School in Nashville, practically escaped death by heading on a break when the shooting happened. As previously revealed, a woman opened fire with at least two assault-type rifles and a handgun, subsequently killing three students and three staff members, per the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

The gut-wrenching news would have undoubtedly sent chills down McDonald’s spine given that her mother-in-law works at the front desk and was returning from a break when she heard gunshots being fired from inside the building. “She was at the school this morning. However, Diana was able to come out of this safe; she actually stepped away to take a break. I mean, that is why right now I’m just torn.”

Her colleague was quick to chime in, sharing empathy for McDonald and her family, saying, “Sure, it probably could have saved her life that she stepped away.” The female shooter died following a standoff with police, who initially claimed the suspect was in her teens. An updated statement later said that the woman was, in fact, a 28-year-old from Nashville.

According to spokesman Don Aaron from the Nashville Police Department, a person entered The Covenant School through the side door and began shooting. Two officers that were summoned at 10:13 a.m. encountered the assailant on the second floor and engaged in a confrontation that resulted in the shooter’s death at the scene.
Aaron reported that the shooter was in possession of two “assault-type rifles” and one pistol, and that the individual had been fatally shot by 10:27 a.m.

The Covenant School, which was established by Covenant Presbyterian Church in 2001, has an average student enrollment of between 195 and 210, according to its website.

At the occasion of the Small Business Administration’s Women’s Business Summit, President Joe Biden spoke of the shooting that had happened earlier in the day.

Biden commented, “This is terrible. We’re still looking into what’s happened, and we’re aware that some people didn’t make it – kids included. It’s utterly heartbreaking. It’s a family’s worst nightmare.”

Joe Biden praised the Nashville police force for their swiftness in acting, remarking that they “took only a few minutes to put a stop to the threat.”

Biden went on to say that more had to be done to put a stop to gun violence, as it is tearing apart our communities and ripping the soul of the nation. He highlighted the fact that the shooter in the situation had two assault rifles and a pistol, and he urged Congress to pass his assault weapons ban as it was high time some progress was made.
