Halle Berry is not convinced by her ex-husband Eric Benét’s earlier claims that he struggled with a sex addiction.
On a episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast that aired on Monday, October 7, Berry, 58, shared her thoughts on his previous sex addiction claims and stated, “I had one husband that claimed he was a sex addict but I don’t f**kin believe that sh*t. That’s some bulllsh*t.”
Although Berry didn’t mention Benét by name, it has been reported that the 57-year-old singer-songwriter entered rehab for sex addiction back in 2002.
Berry and Benét got married in 2001 after dating for two years. The musician was present to celebrate when Berry received her groundbreaking Oscar. However, their relationship took a turn for the worse when Berry discovered that Benét had been unfaithful during their time together. In the wake of the cheating accusations, Benét checked into rehab.
Ultimately, Berry and Benét’s relationship did not last for the long hall, and they announced their separation in 2003.
“Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together,” Berry said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly at the time. “However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time.”
After their split, Benét stated that he did not actually have a problem with sex addiction.
“I am not a sex addict,” he said in a 2004 interview with ABC News. “I am a person who … through a series of emotional events, troubles, challenges, made some really, really stupid, painful mistakes.”
Benét and Berry’s divorce was officially concluded in 2005. He later began a relationship with Manuela Testolini, whom he married in July 2011. Together, they have two daughters, Lucia Bella, who is 12, and Amoura Luna, who is 10.
