Gypsy Rose Blanchard faces backlash over her Mother’s Day tribute, leading her to defend herself against social media trolls and alleged death threats.

Blanchard posted a heartfelt video on TikTok that honored her murdered mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, alongside other mother figures in her life, which sparked controversy on the platform. The tribute was reportedly intended to acknowledge her stepmother Kristy and her boyfriend Ken Urker’s mother for their support in recent years, as reported by TMZ. She clarified to the outlet that her tribute was not meant to disrespect Dee Dee, and despite this, many took offense at the mention of Dee Dee’s name in the tribute, leading to hate comments and threats against her safety.
“When I said that I hope my mom is proud of me, people are thinking I meant she would be proud of the murder. That is obviously not what I meant. I meant she would be proud of me in heaven, like getting my GED, moving towards independence, and learning how to cook, clean, having my own bank account etc,” Blanchard clarified.

Even though she turned off the comments on her post, Blanchard continued to receive negative messages in her DMs, which she has since reported. The majority of the messages were reported, and Blanchard also feels she shouldn’t be excluded from wishing the other women in her life a Happy Mother’s Day:
“Because of what happened with my mom, that shouldn’t make me exempt from wishing the other women in my life a Happy Mother’s Day… I did this message because I have women in my life that are supportive.”
Blanchard served eight years in prison for her involvement in her mother’s murder, which was dramatized in the Hulu miniseries “The Act.” Years before, the case was revealed in the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest.”
On Mother’s Day, Blanchard enjoyed a quiet day with her stepmother, which was watching movies and relaxing. She cooked dinner for Kristy and gave her a teddy bear plus a glass ornament as gifts. Despite the controversy, Dee Dee was in Gypsy’s thoughts, as she said a prayer for her late mother.
“I remember the good she had in her and the good times. I don’t think about the abuse or murder. I miss her and have a lot of guilt and regret.”
