Grubhub Sued For Listing 150,000 Restaurants Without Permission
Digital third-party delivery service Grubhub is being sued after they listed 150,000 restaurants on their platform without permission from the establishments and their owners. Currently, GH has 300,000 restaurants listed, but only 245,000 are described as partnered.
In a lawsuit filed in Chicago, claims state that the platform added “non-partnered restaurants’ to its platform to please shareholders and boost revenue, all to kick their competitors like Uber Eats and DoorDash to the curb.

The suit says, “Grubhub’s decision to add unaffiliated restaurants to its platform may have reaped immediate dividends for Grubhub, but those gains came at the expense of restaurants who had good reasons for choosing not to partner with Grubhub. By including those restaurants on its platform anyway, Grubhub is misleading consumers, who reasonably believe the restaurants have partnered with Grubhub and will be working cooperatively with Grubhub to provide them with accurate, reliable and timely service.”
Also in the suit, it’s reported that several companies have requested to be removed, but GH refuses. Subsequently, they’re suing, stating the site/app is violating federal false advertising and trademark infringement as they’re profiting off the local restaurants’ names, logos and menus.
