Martha May Ophelia Moon Tucker,94, married to her husband Lehman Tucker Sr. in 1952 but before her big day, she was not able to try on a wedding dress because black women were not allowed in bridal shops at the time. The couple had four children, 11 grand children and 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Sadly, Lehman passed away in 1975.

According to AL.com, Tucker was watching “Coming To America” with her granddaughter Angela Strozier and revealed that she wanted to try on a wedding dress since she never had the opportunity several decades ago.

“She said she never wore a wedding dress when she got married. I said, ‘That’s no problem.’ She kinda brushed me off. She didn’t think I would do it.”

Strozier decided to take her grandma to a local David’s Bridal in Birmingham where she tried on two wedding dresses and also received a makeover. She explained to AL that she told the employees about her grandmother’s story and wanted to give her that special experience.
