20-year-old Nashauna Johnson, a Newark, New Jersey woman, has been indicted by a grand jury in Essex County for a fiery crash that killed her four friends back in June 2020.

Johnson, who was 19-years-old at the time of the incident, has been indicted on four counts of vehicular homicide after the car she was driving apparently lost control, crashed and ignited in flames, killing all passengers except Johnson, who miraculously escaped. The victims include, Newark residents Taylor Hill, 19 and Kamal Johnson, 18, (who both passed instantly), and Asanti McNair, 19, and Nashawn Brooks, 19, of Irvington, who was the driver’s boyfriend. Both McNair and Brooks passed on June 10.

Investigators say Johnson was driving a Cadillac CTS when she lost control on Route 22 ( near the Newark-Hillside border), causing a single-car crash and the four fatalities. Johnson, who suffered massive third-degree burns on 60% of her body, was placed into custody after all four of her friends passed. Investigators say speed dint not appear to be a factor in the crash, and currently there are zero public details about alcohol or drugs playing a role in the collision.
