Gov. Gavin Newsom Orders Immediate Closure Of All Bars In Los Angeles & 6 Other Counties
California governor Gavin Newsom has ordered the immediate closure of all bars in Los Angeles and six other counties, and urged eight others to do the same as coronavirus cases rapidly increase across the state.
The mandatory bar closure order affects Los Angeles, Fresno, San Joaquin, Kings, Kern, Imperial and Tulare counties. The order arrives eight days after bars were allowed to reopen in LA County. Upon reopening, some 500,000 people took advantage. As of Saturday (June 27), the state reported a rise of nearly 6,000 confirmed virus cases.

The eight other counties encouraged to follow suit include Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sacramento, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Stanislaus. Newsom stated, “Californians must remain vigilant against this virus. COVID-19 is still circulating in California, and in some parts of the state, growing stronger. That’s why it is critical we take this step to limit the spread of the virus in the counties that are seeing the biggest increases.”
