Google To Let Employees Work From Home Until Summer 2021

Google CEO Sundar Pichari has sent out a company memo letting employees know they will now have the option to work from home until Summer 2021. The option was first presented in March, due to the global coronavirus pandemic, and was set to cease at the end of 2020.

Furthermore, the updated policy, which arrives amid rising COVID-19 cases in California, has now affected nearly 200,000 full-time and contract employees working for the search engine’s parent company, Alphabet.

Additionally, Pichai writes to his workers, “To give employees the ability to plan ahead, we’ll be extending our global voluntary work from home option through June 30, 2021 for roles that don’t need to be in the office. I hope this will offer the flexibility you need to balance work with taking care of yourselves and your loved ones over the next 12 months.”

Moreover, the move is said to possibly set a new precedence for other tech companies and those alike to follow suit.
