Dang! After 40 years of dating, actors Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have yet to get married, and according to Hawn, they have zero intentions on doing so.
Since 1984, the 77-year-old Academy Award-winning actress and her longtime 72-year-old, also-famous actor, boyfriend have been dating, and even welcomed a son, Wyatt Russell, in 1986. However, they both have a similar outlook when it comes to tying the knot — they have both personally experienced the aftermath of an unsuccessful union and neither want to go through it again.
Russell was previously married to actress Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983 and welcomed a son, Boston. Meanwhile, Hawn was previously married to actor Gus Trikonis from 1969 to 1976, and later to musician Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1982, with whom she mothered actors Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.
Despite their unofficial union being looked at as unorthodox to some, Goldie Hawn recently spoke with CNN’s Chris Wallace and to the question of why she and Kurt Russell aren’t married, she countered, “Why should we be? Isn’t that a better question?” She noted, “When it doesn’t work out, it ends up to be big business.”
When Wallace continued to press Hawn about her and Russell’s decision to never wed and having zero intentions in the future, she admitted their fear of what an unsuccessful marriage could do to them.
Hawn went on to explain, “It’s always ugly. Somebody actually has to take a look and say, ‘How many divorces actually are fun? How many divorces actually don’t cost money? How many divorces actually make you hate the person more than you did before? How many divorces have hurt children?’”

When Wallace stated that she and Russell have been together for four full decades, adding, “You’re not going to get divorced,” Hawn questioned, “How did you know that then? I like the idea that I can wake up in the morning and make decisions every day if I want to be here.”
She continued to explain why the couple has zero intentions of getting married after 40 years of dating. She added, “I mean relationships are hard. They’re not always easy. There’s all kinds of hurdles we go through. There’s things that we believe in, things we don’t believe in, we agree on. So I think ultimately staying independent with independent thinking is important, so you can hold on to yourself, and you can actually have that feeling.”
