Glenn Foster Allegedly Tried to Steal Inmate’s Socks, Fought With Officers Before Jail Death

New details are emerging in the mysterious death of former NFL player Glenn Foster Jr., who died in jail.

Foster is accused of allegedly beating a sleeping inmate while stealing his socks. He is also reported to have gotten into a fight with officers prior to his death.

As we reported, on Monday, Foster died in custody in Pickens County Jail in Carrollton, Alabama. He was arrested two days before stemming from an incident involving a high-speed chase that ended in a car crash.

Per court documents obtained by WWL-TV, Foster allegedly attacked an inmate named David Wells.

“Wells was asleep and Foster stood over him attempting to steal his socks before repeatedly striking Wells to the chest, rib cage and abdomen area,” the court document read.

Wells reportedly had to be taken to the hospital for treatment for his injuries. The documents do not reveal what happened to Foster after this tussle with officers, and his body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences on Wednesday.

He was battling bipolar disorder, and his family and reform Police Chief Richard Black had made arrangements to bail him out of jail and send him to a hospital for evaluation, but something went wrong, and when they arrived at the jail to get him on Sunday he was dead.

“We went to bond him out and something happened at the jail and they wouldn’t let us get him,” Black said. “I really don’t know medically what was going on, but based on what I learned, it was not normal.”
