Savage’s Bakery owner Elizabeth Scott said her daughter, Liza, has three brain malformations and needs multiple surgeries to resolve the seizures she’s been experiencing. “One is what they call schizencephaly, so we think it’s a rift in the frontal lobe on the right side of her brain, which is the cause of the seizures,” she writes on the child’s donation page as reported by Fox 40. Schizencephaly is a rare birth defect that forms abnormal crevices in the cerebral hemispheres of the brain.
Scott added that she had to purchase additional insurance to pay for Liza’s brain surgery and they will travel to Boston’s Children Hospital for the first round of surgeries next week. However, their expenses are already totaling up to $10,000. The seven-year-old says she hopes to get the surgeries done quickly so she can feel some relief: “I can’t handle it. So, I hope I make it. My mom keeps saying I’m going to, but I feel like I’m not.”
