Undefeated WBA lightweight champ Gervonta “Tank” Davis dropped some big news this week and revealed that he’s planning to hang up his gloves after 2025.

At a press conference ahead of his upcoming match with WBA super featherweight champ Lamont Roach in March, Tank told the media, “After next year, I’m out of it. Yeah, out of this sport.”

In a later interview, Davis gave a deeper answer to reason for wanting to call it quits. “Sh*t trash, it’s garbage. I don’t care about belts I don’t care about that stuff I don’t care about none of that.”

At just 30 years old, Davis is considered one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the game, and his impressive 30-0 record speaks for itself—28 of those victories came by knockout. That kind of power and precision puts him in a league of his own, making him a serious force to be reckoned with in the ring.

Davis has already made his mark by holding titles in the super featherweight and super lightweight divisions, and he’s been a powerhouse in the lightweight class too. Even though he’s planning to step away from boxing by the end of 2025, he hinted that he wants to get in the ring three more times before he hangs it up.

His journey will kick off with a showdown on March 1 against Lamont Roach, who boasts a solid record of 25-1-1. Roach is coming off a big win over Hector Luis García for the WBA super featherweight title and successfully defended it against Feargal McCrory. This matchup is set to be an exciting battle as Davis looks to make a statement before wrapping up his career.

While the 29-year-old Roach from Washington, D.C., has built a solid resume, he hasn’t faced opponents of the same caliber as Davis, who’s taken down big names like Ryan Garcia, Frank Martin, Léo Santa Cruz, and Isaac Cruz.

If Davis wraps up his career with three fights in 2025, it’ll be the first time he’s fought that many times in a single year since 2019.

After his bout with Roach, the future is a bit murky for Davis. However, Darshan Desai from Yahoo Sports’ Uncrowned has mentioned some intriguing possibilities, including a rematch with Garcia or showdowns against Vasiliy Lomachenko or Shakur Stevenson. Those matchups could really elevate the excitement as he nears the end of his journey in the ring.
