Georgia Sheriff & City Sergeant Threaten To Arrest Each Other At Traffic Stop

Sgt. Tracy James, of the Hiawassee Police Department, wore the body cam that captured Towns County Sheriff Ken ‘Ode’ Henderson intruding on his traffic stop. Sgt. James tells Sheriff Henderson, “You get on my traffic stop again, I will arrest you.”

Apparently, Sgt. James had the civilian vehicle pulled over in Sheriff Henderson’s jurisdiction.

Sheriff Henderson responds to Sgt. James’ threat to arrest by saying, “I’ll arrest you right now.” The two then go back and forth, with Sgt. James explaining how the traffic stop began within city limits. He claims the violation occurred some blocks back, however, the car was pulled over outside of his jurisdiction.

But, Sheriff Henderson was NOT having it and told Sgt. James to “Shut your f**king mouth,” and he proceeded to call him a “boy.”

Sgt. James told Sheriff Henderson, “I’m not your boy.” So, the Sheriff took things up a notch and called the Sergeant a f**kboy.”

Keeping his cool, Sgt. James repeated “Thank you” several times in a sarcastic tone and walked back to his patrol car. Once inside, he utters out and calls the Sheriff a “motherf**ker.”

Meanwhile, dispatch asks him if he is safe and replies, “10-4.” on his walkie talkie.

According to 11Alive, the site reports that both the Police Department and Sheriff’s Department have been at odds over jurisdiction for some time now.

Apparently, the two organizations do not have any “overlapping chain of command.”

Additional police sources claim that becuase Hiawassee is so small, many of their traffic stops often occur outside of the city’s limits, eve though the violations may begin the town — as it did in this situation.

Meanwhile, Towns County Attorney Robb Kiker tells the site, “My advice to the sheriff at this time is to not make any statements because this will be an ongoing investigation. The frustration exhibited by the sheriff on the video is a result of a broader issue and will be referred for further investigation by the proper authorities.”

Elsewhere, Hiawassee Police Chief Paul Smith spoke on the incident and said, “We regret that this unfortunate event occurred. The Hiawassee Police Department will continue to strive for excellence in safety and service to our citizens and visitors while working with all public agencies to accomplish that goal.”

The site also claims that in another recording, Sheriff Henderson can be heard referring to the members of the Hiawassee Police Department as “enemies.”
